Recent Changes at Sea World Orlando

» Navigation » Sea World Orlando

The theme park business is a tough one, especially in Orlando. With some of the world's most well known and visited attractions in all the world, a park cannot afford to rest on its laurels. To stay competitive, the theme parks have to keep changing and improving or they will be left behind.

One example of this is Sea World Orlando, which has been in a constant state of change. Some of their most recent changes have been with their rides. For example, Manta opened this past year. What is Manta? One of the most amazing roller coaster rides ever imagined. If you think you know roller coasters so well that you can no longer be surprised, wait until you ride Manta. Yes, other roller coasters have loops like Manta, and yes, other rides go fast like Manta, and yes, other rides are even open, meaning no floor beneath your feet. But when you ride Manta, you are not sitting. When you enter the ride, you sit down and strap in. The ride begins with a frightening sound that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight up. That sound is the car you're strapped into shifting your position. You suddenly find yourself staring straight down at the ground, on your belly. The entire ride is ridden in this prone position. Now add the loops and the speed. If you've ever dreamed of flying, this ride gets you about as close as you will get.

Beside the rides that Sea World has added recently, there have been some corporate changes. Most people have heard by now, that Sea World has a new owner- the Blackstone Group. That's right. Anheuser Busch no longer owns the Sea World and Busch Gardens parks. As a matter of fact, it was under yet a different owner, In Bev, until a few months ago. In light of this major change, many people are wondering what changes will result in the parks.

The first noticeable changes were the taking down of any In Bev or Anheuser Busch signage throughout the parks. This step makes sense and has very minimal impact on the overall park experiences.

One of the greatest innovations for a theme park is the all-year pass. Most parks offer season or year-long passes, but Sea World offers a Fun Card. Last year they advertised it as the "pay for a day, come back all year" pass. This year the Fun Card, as it is now called, is an even better deal. Prices have been lowered by $5.00! Now for only $69.95, you can enjoy Sea World or Busch Gardens for a day and then use your Fun Card to come back anytime throughout the year, as many times as you want. This price is for Florida residents. Non-Florida residents can take advantage of the Fun Cards as well, for just a few dollars more.

So while all the parks are making improvements and offering deals, true innovation stands out. Sea World wants to make sure that they are near the top of the list when customers are deciding which park to visit. You can be sure that Sea World will continue to make changes to its parks to keep us coming back again and again, and with the new, lower cost of the Fun Card, now we can get more for our dollar.
